KISHANGANGA HEP, J&K
Design, Providing and installation of flexible boulder protection system (Rock fall Barrier system) on left bank slope above the Kishanganga Dam Spillway, Gurez
The top of the Kishanganga Dam is at El. 2395m above MSL. The source of rockfall is identified as the existing overburden material above the cut slope of the spillway between El. ‡ 2440m to El. 2470m. The source is located between around 25m upstream 35m downstream of the dam axis. The overburden material is composed of angular rock pieces of volcanic embedded in clayey matrix. The exposed rock/rockmass in cut slope is strong, competent, slightly weathered and moderately to widely jointed volcanic rock. The ETA approved 3000 KJ rockfall barrier was installed in a stretch length of around 80m from 30m u/s of dam axis to 50m d/s of dam axis at around El. ‡ 2440m. The spillway cut slope has been provided with designed rock supports comprising of 32m dia. rock anchors @ 2m c/c along with shotcrete.
