SUMBER PORTAL, J&K
Design and Construction of Gabion Wall at the portal of Tunnel T-48 at Sumber Yard, J&K
The proposed tunnel opening face at T-48 is required to have smooth surface finish for Graffiti and Painting works as per the aesthetic requirements of the project. Construction of conventional solutions like RCC walls etc., shall require huge excavations on the existing stabilized slope and as the given area is already stabilized prone to danger of rock detachments during execution, huge excavations on slope are not possible. Keeping in view the above site conditions P&G Geohazard Solutions suggested Gabion wall with minimal excavation and most reliability.
To minimize the excavation on slope and for retention of backfill Gabion wall of maximum height 11.0m has been proposed. Gabion wall is properly designed for the anticipated live load and seismic load for retention purpose. Gabion wall is advantageous in terms of better uniform pressure distribution at the base of the wall. Differential settlement will be addressed effectively as the system is flexible and monolithic.
